Lost in Birding - Burke County Birding Festival

To register for the 2012 Burke County Birding Festival, please complete the following form. People with a variety of birding experience attend the Festival. Please register for activities that suit your interests. Tour group sizes are limited - early registration is suggested. Please indicate the number of youth and/or adults registering for each activity.

Sparrow Seekers Tour
Group size is limited. Register early

For 4 1/2 hours your experienced guides will visit numerous locations on the Refuge to locate the elusive grassland sparrows by calls and sight. Some walking will be done. A field break for your comfort will be provided. Other birds will not be ignored, but the focus will be on grassland birds.

8:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Safari Tour
Group size is limited. Register early

This shorter (2 1/2 hour) Refuge tour will be conducted while participants observe from their bus seats. This tour is focused on people who want a broader wildlife experience, with no walking required. Some binoculars may be available for loan.

Plant Walk
Pack your lunch -
we will picnic on the prairie!

Join us as we observe the beauty of the prairie grasses and flowers. This is the unique habitat vital to grassland birds.

Pack your picnic lunch!

A guided walk over rough terrain without a trail, exploring wilderness on Lostwood Refuge. Bring a lunch to picnic on the prairie!
