Jerry Meiers from Vernonia, Oregon
We are New to Max, I was born in NoDak, and moved to Vernonia Oregon. but, on Dec.5th. 2008, we were hit by a 100 Yr. Flood. it wiped us out. and we became homeless, and refugees. after living out of Motels & Hotels, we were seeking somewhere to call home. and we met one of your local people, who told us of a house he had in Max, we came and viewed the house, and felt it was a good buy, and a nice town to live in. and now, we are homeowner, and soon to start a business here too. very much like the city of Max, ND.

hello. My dad, Max Ulrich, was born here (1912) and is in your cemetary, buried in 1960. I lost him when I was eight years old. (we lived in Williston). He was born on a farm there, in Max, and after he left the farm (unwillingly, thanks to my mom) my aunt and uncle owned it, the Horgans. Now I don't know who owns it. My uncle told me they are distant cousins before he died. I don't know where it is, in relation to Max, but I have such wonderful memories of that farm. I am still so attached to this place. If anyone knows any of these people, please email me. I wish I could have grown up here, it sounds so wonderful. I also remember Tony and George Freeze, is that how you spell their last name? Also Punky Thompson, who got in a car accident but lived through it. These are all my childhood memories. Thank you for any information. God bless Max, ND.

What a cute site! My Mom told me about your site (we lived in Max from 1973-1975. My dad - Galen Ashton - was stationed at the Radar site between Max and Minot. We rented a large house in town (I hear it is gone now). My Mom's name is Betty and my sister is Jo - she dated Brad Haugeberg(sp?) back then and my little brother was a baby then - Chris. I can tell you we all miss Max! Gayla Ashton - I was in the class of 1980 but left after 7th grade.

I just learned that DuWayne Bostow passed away....so sad. I worked with DuWayne for many years at the Geophysical Institute until he retired and moved back home...to Max....to be with his Mom. I have memories of DuWayne and am sorry that I didn't keep in better touch with him. He was a very nice and genuine man and I'll remember him always. Farewell DuWayne.....

My grandfather, A. C. Freitag (born in 1869)was one of the township supervisors of Max, ND for a number of years prior to his death in March, 1931. My father, Alfred O. Freitag was born in Max in July, 1903 and his brother, Max Freitag, also was born in Max, ND in October, 1901. My grandfather, A.C. had a brother named Paul (born in 1873). Paul, also, had a son named Max. In the newspaper article copy that I have, after A.C. died, it is noted that the town of Max is named after his son, Max; and, his brother's son Max. I notice that in the article "Max History", it states that the town of Max was only named after Paul's son. Is this an error?

I just had the opportunity to visit Max, and I am impressed with how nice the town looks. It would be nice to see more businesses come to Max, however. It's nice to see some wide open spaces, after living in Japan for the past two years. Ann and I will be heading back to Japan in about two weeks; so Max was that breath of fresh air that we won't have for the next ten months.

Hi - I lived in Max in the 60s, next door to Patty and Gene and Wayne Waltz, in a huge house. My mom gave piano lessons, dad was an SDA minister. Denise Zahnow was a great friend, and her brother Ricky. I sure have great memories of those days - ice skating at the pond; driving to Minot in a blizzard! I am a nurse, in Oregon near Portland. My sisters, Jeanie, Candy, and "Hud" are scattered around the US, and mom and dad "Van and Elmer" live in WA. We visit his farm near Cleveland nearly every year. Would love to hear from old classmates and friends!

Am just beginning to "trace my heritage" on my paternal grandfather's side of the family. My grandfather's name was Andrew Roth. I was rather young when my grandparents passed on and they spoke of childhood experiences but not of the "old country". I do recall of him mentioning Gayheart(spelling?) Roth who lived at Max. His relationship to my grandfather I'm not certain of. The following is information I do have in regard to my grandfather: 1. He was born in Romania in March 1885; 2. He came to the United States in 1899; 3. He homesteaded near Max, residing there until 1910,when he moved to Foster County; and 4. He married Helena Seibold in July 1909. If anyone would information in regard to my grand
