My husband and I have been looking at various towns in ND as I was offered a job in Minot. However, your beautiful town is too far from Minot, I am looking for jobs that would be closer. It really sounds like the perfect place for us, we are small town people, and would love to call this home. I will keep looking for jobs until then keep up the website so I can look for housing.

Looking for a CHEAP but liveable house in McClusky. Also what is the job environment like. I work in local hospital at registration and also at local paper as proofreader. What is the overall feel of the high school as regards to bullying, drinking, and any violence; as well as academics offered.

As many of your know, a former McCluskian has left us. Her name was Betty (Lauer) Allen. She was born in McClusky and graduated from here. Many of you knew her. She was a fun-loving, and energetic lady. She will be greatly missed by her family, former classmates and friends. Rest in Peace, dear Betty

My great-great grandfather and grandmother came to McClusky from Russia (or Germany, trying to get it straight) in 1905. There names were Fred and Elisabeth Dick. My great grandmother is Louise Dick, who married Daniel Frey. My grandpa was born in the area as well (Jarvis William Frey). My grandpa (goes by "Bill") is turning 76 next month. He currently resides in Forest lake, MN. I am wondering if anyone knows of any of these people, or has any stories to tell. I am curious. Thank you!

My grandfather (Frank Callahan) was the first Sheriff of Sheridan County and settled there around 1904. My grandmother (Mame Dougherty) came from Green Bay,WI by wagon train with her parents and 11 siblings. My father was born in McClusky. I visited there once as a small child and my brother and I were there again around 2008. I bought a few books about the history and settling of Sheridan County. Those people were real pioneers and had a difficult life. Loved reading the history and learning about the individual families

We lived in McCluskey for one year only. My father supervised the building of the Court House. For living there such a short time, I have good memories. However, when I went back a few years ago, I could not connect with anything from the past. Where was the house we lived in, the movie theater, the grocery store..... My good friend, Mabel Pozarnsky, lived in the country so her family probably was not known there. Anyone hear of her? Thank goodness, the Court House still stands!

Found this site as I was researching the camping facilities at Hoffer Lake. The folks (Ronnie and Dororthy Krueger) are less than a mile from the lake and we were interested in staying at the lake over the 4th of July. What a great town to grow up in! When looking for a house in the Pierre, SD area, we chose the farming community of Onida (30 miles north of Pierre, SD on Hwy 83) due to its small town feel. It reminded me a lot of McClusky and I really wanted my kids to experience that way of life. Our church is very much like my church back home, as well, (Grace Lutheran). For all you snowbirds traveling Hwy 83 south, we are the brick house 9 miles south of Onida. Stop in on your way through!

Hi everyone, What a neat website! I grew up in McClusky (1950's) and whenever I tell my friends about all the fun things we did and how nice the people and the town were, they say it sounds like I had a storybook life. There were the band concerts, the Old Settler's Day parade, the carnival, ice cream sundae's at the drugstore, Saturday night movies, and of course the highlight for our family was my Grampa Schaeffer's 4th of July Birthday party.

McClusky may be a small town, but if there's one thing I have learned from going off to college, it's this; It's not a disadvantage to grow up in a small town. The people that I grew up with are irreplaceable. We had so many good memories that when I think about McClusky I can't help but smile! Everyone's a big family in McClusky, whether they like it or not. It's like a safety zone for me because it's the one place I don't get lost! How many other places can you give directions by simply pointing your finger?
